We are here to say that you certainly can clean your gorgeous windows during the winter!
As a matter of fact, we clean several windows for our quarterly and bi-annual window-cleaning clients.
Windows are meant to stay clean year-round. It beats the purpose of having windows if you can’t look out at a nice view.
During the winter people also get Christmas Lights Installed. So when the windows are nicely clean, they can see a beautiful display of lights.
So what are some of the myths that are holding people back from cleaning their windows during the winter?
It’s Too Darn Cold Outside To Be Cleaning Windows!
Not when you’re wearing 3 layers of clothing on top of a jacket. You’ll be comfortably cleaning windows quite warmly.
Jokes aside, if you live up north, then during the winter, window cleaning might not be a good idea.
But when you’re in southern states or southwestern states, it’s game on!
Here in Texas, we get about 2 weeks of intense cold weather where we can’t clean windows.
But after that, we’re all good to go.
You Can’t Even Clean The Windows Because The Water Is Just Going To Freeze
Freezing water is a valid point and it is especially true if we’re going to be cleaning windows using our deionized water system.
However, cleaning windows by hand is still doable even during freezing temperatures.
Cleaning by hand means we’re using old traditional methods with a squeegee, mop, and some soap.
Now, the soap solution might actually turn to ice.
But there is a hack around it.
One piece of advice when cleaning windows during cold or freezing weather is to use windshield washers. This is for those who live in freezing temperatures. Your soap solution will not turn into a block of ice.
Once you have that down, make sure you wear lots of layers and gloves and you’re good to go.
The Ground Is Icy And You Can’t Use Ladders Or You’ll Slip & Die
This is a valid point.
You should never use a ladder if the ground is full of ice. The ladder will slip and you will fall.
The last thing we want is any injuries. Homeowners should make sure the window cleaners they work with are fully insured. Many homeowners who hire uninsured window cleaners are putting themselves at a huge risk of lawsuits and getting sued.
One way to clean windows without using a ladder is to understand how to clean windows with a pole.
An extension pole that lets you attach a squeegee and a mop. Doing it this way, you should be able to reach Windows with no problem.
It is only a problem when the windows are extremely dirty with hard water stains. If this is the case, we’d highly recommend to wait until spring to clean the windows.
However, if you are cleaning windows that are fairly clean, wintertime should not be an issue.
Conclusion
Do you have your windows cleaned during the winter months?
As window cleaners in Austin TX, we highly recommend our clients clean their windows quarterly.
This is because it’s less expensive to maintain windows that let them go unclean for long periods of time.
Cleaning windows in the winter month is definitely possible.
You just need the right expertise, caution, and willingness to clean windows in the cold.
We hope this article sheds some light and gives you some great tips on cleaning your windows during the winter months.
Until next time!
